abstract
social anxiety disorder is a debilitating and chronic illness characterized by persistent fear of one or more social or performance situations, with a relatively high lifetime prevalence of 7% to 13% in the general population and various factors are involved in its creation. one of the factors that affect this disorder is personality trait. the present study compared the personality trait in adolescents with symptoms of social phobia and normal subjects. in this study, population included all high school students in the academic year 2013-2014 in tabriz were selected using the clustering method, 80 students were selected among them. the sample included 40 students with symptoms of social anxiety disorder and 40 students without regard to age, gender and education matched normal control group. research tools include personality questionnaire short form and the social phobia inventory. the data were analyzed using univariate anova. the results showed that there are significant differences in the four factors of personality (neuroticism, extraversion, openness and conscientiousness) when the study group compared with the normal group but there was no significant difference in the agreeableness. so students have symptoms of social phobia compared with the normal group in terms of personality.
